Japanese Breakfast Invades Scoot Inn

Fresh off the coattails of South By Southwest, several bands are making their return trip into Austin for spring and summer tours. Snail Mail had one of the most extensive SXSW schedules last month and still managed to make the 19 hour drive from Florida to play the capital city’s Historic Scoot Inn Tuesday night.

With their debut album Lush scheduled to drop June 8th, frontwoman Lindsey Jordan delivered a beautiful mid-tempo set right into the sunset of the Austin skyline. Powering through their track “Thinning” they delivered the perfect set for a beautiful evening. The future is bright for Jordan and the rest of Snail Mail; they’re just getting started and she’s not even 20 yet.

Headlining the evening was Oregon’s Japanese Breakfast who came out with loads of energy showing how excited they were to be performing for the Austin crowd. Frontwoman Michelle Zauner hit the Scoot Inn stage sporting some of the coolest light up Nikes you’ll ever see to highlight her all white get up. Starting off the set with “In Heaven” from their 2016 release Psychopomp, the performance often switched from dreamy guitar chords to up-tempo dance beats igniting the crowd.

Japanese Breakfast ended their set with a cover of The Cranberries’ “Dreams” that would certainly make the late Dolores O’Riordan smile. It was a near perfect evening with everyone in attendance making the night feel more like an intimate backyard show with hundreds of your closest friends rather than a normal concert.

If you get the chance, see Japanese Breakfast on the rest of their tour and you can catch Snail Mail when they return to Austin at Barracuda on July 5th.
